TSCF SPOTLIGHT

The Shavers-Cobb Foundation Turns Five!

The Shavers-Cobb Foundation (TSCF) started simply as a desire of Donovan Shavers to impact change in the health status of disadvantaged communities in Arkansas. During the summer of 2017, Shavers’ desire became a reality when he established the organization in July. In November 2017, TSCF held is first official event in Monticello, Arkansas. The Founder and Executive Director of the Shavers-Cobb Foundation (TSCF) taught on health disparities and health equity at a community health event sponsored by the faith-based organization My Sisters Keyper. This event followed with many more invitations to speak at the churches and community events of those in attendance. During a speaking engagement that followed, a member of the audience thanked Shavers for “just allowing her to talk about her experiences.” It was at this point that the idea to create the “TSCF Let’s Talk Series” was born and over the next year, Shavers traveled across Arkansas as well as parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee talking about health equity and encouraging others from all walks of life to talk about health and advocate for their own right to be well.

In 2018, TSCF began to host health fairs at faith based organizations and conventions. The success of these events led to partnerships with other organizations including My Sisters Keyper, Susan G Komen, The Arkansas Prostate Foundation, The Arkansas Urology Clinic UAMS COPH, The Confess Project of America, and the Divine Nine BGLOs, most notably Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and The Arkansas Kappa Caucus. The “TSCF Let’s Talk Series” and corresponding health fairs expanded beyond the borders of Arkansas and became the pinnacle of success for which the organization is known. TSCF expanded its health fairs under other programs including “Man-2-Man: Men Encouraging Health Among Men” and “Be In The Know Women’s Health Program” in partnership with My Sisters Keyper. In the Summer of 2023, The Shavers-Cobb Foundation will launch a 5-city health fair tour titled “Health on the Road Tour” to commemorate its 5th-year Anniversary. Tour dates and locations are listed on our events page.

The Shavers-Cobb Foundation would like to extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to all who have supported our mission and work over the past 5-years. We look forward to many more years of service to our communities.
